ASSESSMENT AGENCIES SCOPUS DATA:

The Central Library of Forschungszentrum Jülich undertakes bibliometric analyses for scientific managers and heads of institutes in order to evaluate scientific output. By installing Scopus locally, we intend to benefit from more precise searches and to make the most of using worldwide bibliometric comparisons as a benchmark,” said Dr. Bernhard Mittermaier, Head of the Central Library. “Another benefit of a local database installation is that it enables error checking of the data at the same time. Overall, we believe this will help us to further refine bibliometrics at Jülich.”

Science and technology play a crucial role in a country's economic growth,” said Mr. Hiroyuki Tomizawa, Principal Administrator, Economic Analysis and Statistics Division, Directorate for Science, Technology and Industry, with the OECD. "We selected Scopus for its breadth of coverage including journal titles from over 100 nations as well as its advanced features. Together, these advantages will enable the OECD to execute more sophisticated statistical analyses to guide our member countries."
We believe that the strong data found in Scopus, combined with other enhancements we’ve made to our methodology will help stabilize rankings, making them more effective for tracking year-on-year performance. They will also result in a more robust and balanced measure of comparative international university quality.” - Ben Sowter, Head of Research, QS World University Rankings
The national university rankings in Poland have been organized and published by “Perspektywy” for over ten years. In 2009 Perspektywy ranking, for the first time, included data found in SCOPUS. We were very plea-sed with a favorable reaction of the Polish universities to the new criterion. The academic community believes that SCOPUS based criterion being measurable in nature, added credibility to the ranking process and made it more objective.

GOVERNMENT AGENCIES SCOPUS DATA:
KISTI is using Scopus Custom Data to analyze the trend of science & technology with bibliometric methods and the status of international joint research activities. KISTI found that Scopus covers more comprehensive coverage than WOS and has well-organized data structures, for example, good mapping between authors and their institutions.
iFQ is using Scopus Custom Data to quantify German research output and evaluate the gobal impact. “We will work with Scopus for the depth and international breadth of its citation database,” Professor Stefan Hornbostel of iFQ. “The analytical capabilities that the content provides will help us achieve our mission of supporting the German science system with carefully examined and relevant information feeding into policies that will allow Germany to continue to be a global scientific leader.”

UNIVERSITIES USING SCOPUS DATA:
“Gothenburg University Library is using Scopus Custom Data to monitor and quantify the publication output of the university by bibliometric methods. The rich Scopus Custom data gives valuable couplings between authors and organisations and also yields connections to other databases, such as PubMed. It is hence a valuable source.
A recent study revealed that Scopus covers about 39% of the total university publication output, which is very similar to Web of Science (39%). Together the two databases cover 42% of the output.”

- Håkan Carlsson, Bibliometrician, University of Gothenburg
"We are using SCOPUS Custom Data to link the University of Miami's unique faculty identifier with the SCOPUS author ID to better track faculty scholarly activity regardless of the institutional affiliation at the time of publication.
Insight into the expertise of each of our faculty members allows us to promote collaboration, and to build interdisciplinary teams for institutional research projects.
"
- L. Jared Abramson, Director, Research Reporting, University of Miami.
CWTS found that, in general, Scopus covers much of the same material as the WoS and ISI Proceedings and in some areas provides a higher level of coverage. Overall, the report found that Scopus should be considered as a potential alternative to the WoS for the purposes of the REF. “The overall percentage of WoS-covered, science-related papers found in Scopus increased over the years, from 89 per cent in 1996 to 97 per cent in 2005. In other words, in these fields and for published articles and reviews the WoS now constitutes almost a complete subset of Scopus.
INDUSTRY USING SCOPUS DATA:
"Scopus Custom Data enables us to better facilitate our scholarly publishing activities. We rely on Scopus data to gain significant insight into global research output and our journal collection. We use the data in a variety of ways: directing each manuscript submission to the most appropriate member of the journal editorial board, identifying the most appropriate peer reviewers for manuscript, developing editorial boards for new journals and special issues, and many others; and each application is facilitated by analyzing the Scopus Custom Data in different ways."
