Letter from the Editor

Dear librarians,

Welcome to the second edition of insideScopus, the magazine specifically designed to give you an inside look at what’s new from Scopus and more importantly, to hear what other librarians and researchers think.

This second issue coincides with the launch of another exciting new feature on Scopus and one that represents our ongoing commitment to simplifying the literature research process – the Scopus Author Identifier. This significant feature benefits researchers, authors and librarians alike enabling you to search for an author with confidence and quickly access relevant information about that author from one overview.

Available to Scopus users since May 13th, the official launch took place at the Special Libraries Association conference in Baltimore in the United States on Sunday, June 11th and was featured during the popular Scopus Show.

Using sophisticated algorithms the Scopus Author Identifier finally takes the guesswork out of author searching. In this issue our own insider, Scopus Product Technology Manager Gillian Griffiths, provides a behind-the-scenes look at how the Author Identifier was developed and Reeta Sinha, experienced STM information professional, talks about how to take the frustration out of author searching.

At Scopus we strive to support the advancement of the scientific research process and it is with the introduction of the Author Identifier that we have made a giant step towards unravelling the complexity of author disambiguation. In the future, researchers across the globe will expect this feature to be standard within all A&I databases. We are pleased that we can be the first to offer this to our users on such a vast scale.

As always, I am keen to hear your views on Scopus and look forward to receiving your email. Please contact me via inside@scopus.com with your questions and suggestions.
