Letter from the Editor

Dear Librarian,

Welcome to the third edition of inside Scopus, the magazine specifically designed to give you an inside look at what’s new from Scopus and more importantly, to hear what other librarians and researchers think.

This third issue, which is all about content, coincides with some exciting new features on Scopus that together represent our ongoing commitment to simplifying the literature research process. One new first-of-its-kind feature especially interesting to
librarians is the Selected Sources tab. Now you can choose from a list of institutional resources and special subject collections – as well as from your own institute’s repositories and digital archives – and make them available for your users to search through the Scopus interface. Also new are PatentCites and WebCites, enabling users to see the influence of peer-reviewed research literature on online grey literature and patents. Read more about these in “This Just In”.

Our own insider Joris van Rossum, former Product Manager for Scopus and now Head of Scirus, talks about how users and librarians help keep Scopus ever more complete, comprehensive, current and transparent. Joris helped set up the initial Content Selection and Advisory Board (CSAB) that Library Director and CSAB member Atilio Bustos speaks of so highly in his interview.

Professor Evan Bieske, also a CSAB member, discusses how he uses Scopus in his research and gives a tip on his favorite Scopus feature. This issue also includes a wrap-up from the 72nd annual IFLA conference held in August in Seoul, South Korea.

I am pleased that our librarians and researchers are eager to share their Scopus experiences via this newsletter, and as always, I am keen to hear your views on Scopus. Please contact me at inside@scopus.com with your questions and suggestions.
