It's All About: Content

Scopus Continues its Focus on Enriching Regional and Social Sciences Content

Since its inception, Scopus has committed itself to being the most comprehensive database of peer-reviewed literature and quality web sources available. During the development of Scopus, evidence-based development has been the foundation of Scopus working in close collaboration with librarians and researchers. To ensure this end user involvement, for its content strategy, Scopus invites users to submit titles for inclusion in the database and lets users (i.e. Content Selection & Advisory Board (CSAB)) evaluate the suggested titles. This allows Scopus to ensure user-centered and best in class content.

In total, almost 1,300 titles were suggested by users indicating the increasing importance placed on Scopus by the scientific community. After extensive evaluation, 560 titles were selected (43% of the suggested titles) to be added to Scopus in the course of next year.

Despite the broad selection of suggested titles, there is a clearly continuous focus on local content and Social Sciences. Almost 20% of the new titles originate from Central & South America indicating the importance of this region’s scientific output. In Social Sciences, 200 new titles will be added to the already extensive coverage with 2,800 titles.

In the New Year, Scopus will continue to focus on comprehensiveness with additional projects to further extend Articles-in-Press with more major publishers and investigate whether to extend conference proceedings. Also transparency will be an important focus for next year by improving transparency of the title selection process.
