From the Editor | Cover Story | Who's Who | As a Matter of Fact As a Matter of FactSave valuable research time with the Scopus Affiliation Identifier An exciting new release of the Scopus Affiliation Identifier has been launched, providing researchers, librarians and decision makers with a unique and innovative tool that helps them to quickly and accurately identify an institutions article output.
Researchers, librarians and decision makers frequently require insight into an institution’s research output when reviewing an organization’s research performance. Questions that typically arise are “who are we collaborating with?”, “what journals am I publishing in?” However, finding an institution’s entire article output can be a cumbersome, error-prone and time consuming task. “Before the release of Scopus Affiliation Identifier, multiple name variants made it notoriously difficult and tedious to group authors affiliated with an institution,” says Niels Weertman, Director of Product Management. “One such example is the University of Tokyo, which has 800 name variants of articles and published authors found in Scopus alone.” The Scopus Affiliation Identifier tackles this obstacle by automatically matching the multiple name variants attributed to an organization. As a result, user can now easily and quickly identify an institution’s research output and get an instant snapshot of the institute’s output broken out by subject area, source and collaborative affiliation.
